The World’s Only Class-V Fishing Experience!

Gore Canyon Class-V Fishing Adventure

Paddle the unthinkable, Fish the un-fishable, catch
record-breaking trout. Gore Canyon is a mythical place where the monsters lurk
in the deep pools created by thrashing Class-V rapids and waterfalls, but
nobody can get down into the canyon to fish. Gore Canyon’s steep granite walls
forbid even the most expeditious hikers from entering their depths. There is
only one way to access the most unbelievable fishing spots within Gore Canyon,
by paddling some of America’s most technically challenging Class-V whitewater
through one of our nation’s most committing canyons. The reward? Fishing holes
that nobody else can fish, some of which may have never been fished before.

Imagine your adrenaline spiking as your team paddles into
the vertical black granite of Gore Canyon, the  walls begin to constrict, the river begins to
roar, and you see a horizon line where the water appears to drop off the face
of the earth. As you approach your first major rapid, Applesauce (Class-IV+),
fishing is the last thing on your mind as your boat begins to slide down the
tongue of water towards a steep drop. Accelerating quickly, your raft hits a
“jump” and blasts over a steep drop. You land in a massive pool about the size
of a football field below the waterfall which you just descended, and suddenly
the fisherman in you re-awakens with the thought of “there are MONSTERS in this
hole” Welcome to Gore Canyon.

This is not your average fishing trip, and it’s also not for
everybody, but if you are an ambitious fisherman and athletic adrenaline junky,
you may have just stumbled upon one of the most unique adventures in the world.
There is absolutely nothing else like Class-V fishing in Gore Canyon, it is
quite literally the only trip of its kind in the world.

At this point you’re probably wondering how a trip like this is even logistically possible… Please, allow us to explain.

Your Class-V fishing adventure begins in Kremmling, Colorado
at our boathouse, with Gore Canyon looming in the background. Here you will
meet your guides, safety kayakers, and gear boaters who will help you prepare for
your expedition. You’ll be outfitted with top of the line fishing equipment and
full paddling gear. Your Trip Leader and safety squad will give you a comprehensive
safety training session to prepare you for the whitewater environment that you
are about to enter. This training includes whitewater swimming techniques,
kayak rescue, rope rescue, and other safety practices for surviving Class-V
whitewater.

Next, you will be outfitted with your fishing equipment and
made familiar with its operation. Your fishing guide will instruct you on the
proper use of your rod and reel, and suggest different flies and lures for
different situations to set you up for success in the canyon.

Now it’s time to get in the van and head to the put-in, but
don’t get comfortable because it’s only a 5 minute drive! At the put-in, you
will receive even more safety training in a paddle-talk from your
river-guide.  Now it’s time to get in the
raft and float towards the canyon. As you work your way through the flat water,
you can try casting every couple hundred yards while learning to paddle as a
team. Closer to the canyon, raft-reentry drill and whitewater swimming test will
be conducted by your guides. Each participant must fall out of the raft, swim
underneath it, and attempt to re-enter the raft on their own power. Next, you
will paddle through half of the first Class-III rapid, aptly named “Fisherman’s
Nightmare” before pulling over for a Class-III swimming drill. Each paddler
will be instructed on the proper way to swim the second half of Fisherman’s
Nightmare by navigating around rocks and swimming into the eddy below, where
your safety crew is waiting just in case. Once you pass the test, it’s time to
descend into the loving embrace of Gore Canyon!

Your raft will be guided by one of our expert Gore Guides
with decades of experience. Your boat’s paddle-crew of 4 people will be expected
to paddle hard and follow your guide’s instructions carefully as you enter the
rapids. Your crew will be flanked by our expert safety kayakers who will stay
nearby in the event that any of your crew decides to join the Gore Canyon Swim
Team. Another raft paddled by expert guides will follow closely and set up
shore safety in specific places. This raft also contains all of your fishing
gear, rigged into the raft in a bomb-proof container so that it remains intact
and it’s not in your way. The entire crew will run the canyon together, backing
each other up and keeping each other safe.

After dropping into the first major rapid, Applesauce, the
group will pull over and break out the tackle to fish the massive hole from it’s
rocky shore. Each individual fisherman can walk the shore and try to catch
massive Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout while your guides assist every step of
the way. After spending some glorious time fishing below applesauce, your
guides will pack up the gear and prepare you for a few more miles of insane
Class-V whitewater fun! Paddle roughly 2 miles of awesome rapids before pulling
over below Pyrite Rapid (Class-IV+) to break out the rods again! Paddle the
next 2 miles before stopping to fish the holes below Tunnel Falls (Class-V) and
Toilet Bowl (Class-IV+). Pull over at the beach above Kirschbaum Rapid (V-) for
lunch. Spend some time fishing the shore along nearly a mile of Kirschbaum’s
Class-V holes to see what kind of monsters you can pull out! Below Kirschbaum,
the canyon begins to mellow out and open up. Depending on time, your guide can
take you to some awesome fishing spots before approaching the takeout at
Pumphouse.

As you arrive at Pumphouse, your camp is already setup by
our camp host, who will greet you with freshly prepared hor derves to snack on
while you wait for your gourmet dinner. Meal options include locally raised,
grass-fed Black Angus steak, smoked trout, fire grilled Chicken Breast, and
Apple-cured Pork Chops with all the fixings. Bring your catch of the day to our
camp host to have it gutted and grilled over an open fire to really cap off an
unforgettable day!

Camp in luxury with our amazingly comfortable “Paco”
Sleeping Pads, spacious tents, comfy camp chairs, and full-service staff. Fish
from shore, play horseshoes, or tell lies to your friends about “the one that
got away” around the campfire. Wakeup to a hearty breakfast, cast a few times
for good luck, then hop in our vans for the ride back to Kremmling knowing that
you just accomplished one of the most unique adventures on the planet. All
bragging rights included!
